Abstract

491,355. Endless chain conveyers. GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA. Nov. 11, 1937, Nos. 31041, 31042, 31043, and 31044. Convention dates, Nov. 11, 1936, Dec. 1, 1936, Jan. 2, 1937, and Jan. 2, 193'7. [Class 78 (i)] A conveyer for use in mining comprises a series of flexible overlapping metal plates which rest on the bottom of a trough and are joined by short connecting members to endless tractive means. Each plate 19, Fig. 1, is connected by chains 18 to endless chains 17 which travel in substantially closed guides above the side walls of the trough and pass around end sprockets 22 disposed externally of the trough. The chains may be directed towards the end sprockets by rollers 23, but these may be dispensed with if the path of the conveyer is inclined for a short distance in front of the sprockets and the chains are led over the low side walls 16, Fig. 2. Guides 24 arranged eccentrically to the end sprockets direct the plates from the working run into the return run. The plates are prevented from sliding over each other by lugs 26, Fig. 2, through which the chains 18 are passed. In order that the plates may be slid underneath the material to be conveyed, their front edges are provided with angular members 21, Fig. 13. In a modification one of the chains 17 is dispensed with and reinforcing strips or corrugations are provided on the edges of the plates. The corrugations may extend across the plates or be replaced by transverse strips.
