Abstract
491,268. Actuation of switches. HAMILTON, W. R., and HAMILTON, R. W. Aug. 16, 1937, No. 22502. [Class 38 (v)] An electric switch actuated by the flow of a fluid, comprises two contacts, a brass rod 25 partly cut away and a flat steel spring strip 26 carrying an armature 26d, the weight of which causes contact tip 26e to engage with contact 25. These are housed in an insulating tube 23a, lining a metal tube 18 which lies directly below a vane 14a when this is at rest under the sole influence of gravity. In this position a permanent magnet 33 carried by the vane 14a attracts the armature 26d and opens the switch. The vane 14a is caused to move by fluid pressure in the direction of the arrow about pivots 15a, and the magnet 33 moves away from the switch which therefore closes, thus operating an alarm.
