Abstract
491,039. Water - waste preventers. BARNARD, S. B., and GAUNT, E. H. April 21, 1937, No. 11339. [Class 26] In a siphon-discharge apparatus for flushing cisterns, a float-valve-controlled air pipe 8 is provided on the siphon for automatically rendering it inoperative until at least a predetermined quantity of water, determined by the difference in level between the valve seal and the bottom of the short leg 3 of the siphon, has accumulated in the cistern, so that, at each flush the whole of the contents of the cistern above the lower level, with the predetermined quantity as a minimum, is discharged. The siphon is supported by its long leg 2 on the bottom of the cistern. The air pipe 8 is enlarged at the lower end and provided with a cross-pin 10 to retain the ball float valve 9. Alternatively the valve may be in the form of a cap or plug supported by a float, or of the lever-and-ball float type. Thus when the water level has reached the valve seat the valve is closed, and, if the siphon is then operated, is retained in position by suction until the discharge is completed.
