Abstract

307,983. Ross, T. Aug. 14,1928. F l u i d - actuated valves.-In a cistern discharge valve, a washer 1 secured to a tubular stem 6 carrying a loose weight 17, is normally flexed upwardly when seated on the outlet 2 but, when raised, is inversely flexed, as shown, by engagement with the edge of a dome-shaped casing 4, the tendency to resume normal shape creating a suction effect wherebv it is sustained until the cistern has nearly emptied. The valve is raised by a push rod 15 acting through a bell crank 9 and link 8. In one form, the stem is directly coupled to the link 8, being extended to act as an overflow into the discharge pipe 18. As shown, a suction washer 19, held in contact with the head 21 of the stem by a loose weight 22, is interposed as a waste preventer.
