Abstract

490,186. Mixing fluids in flow. POTTS, H. E. (Handelsvereeniging Heijenbrock & Co.) Nov. 20, 1937, No. 31990. [Class 86] [Also in Group XXI] A device for mixing gases with liquids for producing foams, comprises a container 1 for liquid and a mixer consisting of a core 19 within a sleeve 18, the inner surface of the sleeve and/or the outer surface of the core being formed with intersecting right- and lefthanded helical grooves 24, of different number, forming tortuous channels through which the gas and liquid are forced. The mixed gas and liquid are further mixed in channels 28 in a discharge nozzle 27. Gas is supplied to the channels 24 by way of a bore 22 in a nipple 21, and liquid by way of the pipe 17, passage 16, and bore 22. The exterior of the nipple is threaded to produce a preliminary mixing. In a modification, the liquid is first sub-divided by the channels, before the gas is admitted to them. In another modification, two or more concentric sleeves are provided with grooved surfaces.
