[Class 100 (ii)] Relates to hectographcopying machines of the type comprising an impressionroller carriage 16 adapted to travel over a gelatine &c. surface, such as a band 14, supported on a flat bed 11, and consists in hingeing the carriage at one side to a bracket 28 slidable along and rotatable about a fixed rod 26, a device being provided for yieldably resisting swinging movement between the carriage and support in the direction of approach of the carriage to the bed. The connection permits the carriage to rise and fall perpendicularly to the bed and also to rock transversely to the bed thus compensating for variations in thickness of the copy sheets and in the level of the gelatine surface. The bracket 28 is formed with two vertical abutment surfaces 30, 32 opposed to which are abutment surfaces 35, 36a slightly spaced therefrom to permit a relative swinging movement between the carriage and the support. The resilient device resisting this movement consists of a spring-pressed plunger mounted in a housing 36, the pressure of the spring being adjustable. The carriage is supported on tracks 12 by wheels 44 which are lifted off the tracks when the impression roller is lowered into printing position. To permit access to the bed, the carriage may be swung about the rod 26 until an abutment surface engages a stop 45.
