1454364 Travelling-cylinder machine RAPID DATA SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 29 Nov 1973 [2 Oct 1972] 45270/72 Heading B6C A travelling-cylinder machine, which is essentially suited for printing on to documents from an embossed card includes a movable carriage 20 for an impression cylinder 21 and a handle 22 attached to the carriage for the imprinting stroke, the handle 22 also being pivotable to urge the impression cylinder 21 from an inoperative position clear of the platen (2), Fig. 3 (not shown), into a position where it contacts a card supported by the platen, the handle being resiliently biased towards the inoperative position by springs 51. In the particular embodiment, a head (10), Figs. 1 and 4 (not shown) is pivoted about eccentricallymounted axle 7, biased to an inoperative position, Fig. 1, by springs 42, and held in operative position by coacting latch surfaces 30, 31 and 32, 33. The carriage 20 is mounted in head (10) by means of roller pairs 17, 18 travelling in guideways (14, 15), Fig. 4. The height of carriage 20 above platen (2) may be adjusted using eccentrically-journalled shaft 26, whose mounting pins 26a form axles for the rollers 18, and clamp screw 27.
