Abstract

1388482 Printing apparatus ADDRESSOGRAPH MULTIGRAPH CORP 13 March 1972 [12 March 1971] 11675/72 Heading B6C A travelling cylinder printing machine, of the kind which prints from an embossed card 22 on a stationary bed 16, or alternatively, a machine with such a card on a moving bed co-operating with a stationary impression cylinder, incorporates a roller platen or impression cylinder which during printing is locked in one of a plurality of vertical positions relative to the bed 16, dependent on the thickness of a form F, or pile of forms and carbons, which are to be printed. When platen carriage 34 is moved away from end plate 28 two catches 84 on the carriage engage stationary co-operating members 90, and pawls 86 are removed from ratchet teeth 76, allowing cams 68 at the ends of the roller platen 36 to be turned by springs 82 and drive the platen downwards. The roller platen is arrested when it encounters that part of form F which overlies a pad 23, and return of the pawls 86 locks it. At the end of the printing stroke a roller 80 on each cam 76 encounters a cam surface 104, rotates the cams 76 and raises the roller platen.
