Abstract

1,151,959. Printing-apparatus. ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORP. 24 Oct., 1967 [25 Oct., 1966], No. 48375/67. Heading B6C. A cylinder printing machine suitable for printing from an embossed plate P comprises a bed 26 for holding a forme F to be printed, a carriage 28 supporting a roller platen 52 and adapted to be moved across the bed along a track 14 to perform the printing operation, and means 40 movable towards the bed to clamp the forme thereagainst and away from the bed to release the forme, the means 40 being moved as a result of the motion of the carriage, whereby the said means is in a clamping position as the roller 52 moves over the forme to effect printing. As the roller 52 is moved away from its home position, an actuating roller 60 rides along a cam slot (84), Fig. 3 (not shown), in the device 40 causing the device to pivot so that its plate 80 is lowered into engagement with the forme. The plate 80 is provided with an opening 82 large enough to expose the data on the plate to be printed. At about the same time a plate 44 engages a portion 64 of a trip member 62 causing a member 42 to be rotated and the roller 52 to be lowered to a printing level. The roller is maintained at this level by an overcentre spring 58 until an ear 47 on the carriage strikes a pin 66. The slot (84) is designed to allow an operator to position the forme accurately before secure clamping and printing occur. The forme is securely clamped until the roller is returned to its home position.
