Abstract
489,603. Calculating - apparatus. FOUNTAINE, C. A. Jan. 28, 1937, No. 2712/38. Divided out of 489,501. [Class 106 (i)] A cursor for a slide-rule of the flat-straight type carries a manually operated counting disc with a notched periphery engaged by a spring pawl to allow of rotation of the disc step by step in one or other direction for each change of characteristic during a series of operations. The cursor is shown in Figs. 6 and 7, applied to a slide rule as described in Specification 489,501, and comprises a transparent plate with a central index line K<1> secured to a lower frame k<5> and to an upper frame K<10>. The plate is formed with an extension K<2> having marked thereon indices or arrows k, k<1> and carrying a rotatable disc or wheel K<3> having a serrated periphery with which engages a spring pawl k<4>. A series of numerals K<4> is marked on the disc extending from + 9 to -9 through 0, and a second series K<5> is inscribed on the disc from 0 to + 5. Other scales may be marked on the back of the disc. Specification 411,090 also is referred to.
