489,579. Brake transmission. PRATT, J. H., and MANLEY, G. E. Feb. 2, 1937, No. 3011. [Class 103 (i)] In brake transmission for rear brakes having a vertical pivot 6 connected to the rear brakes by rods operated by a crank 6b and working in a plane at right-angles to the planes containing the brake shoes, the vertical pivot is mounted in two bearings 6e, 6f, Fig. 1, or the pivot may be formed at a two-part built-up member, mounted in one bearing in order that the brakes may still be applied if fracture of the pivot 6 occurs. The brake pedal is connected by a rod 10 to the pivot 6 and the hand lever through a rod 11 so that in the event of fracture of the pivot 6 the brakes may be applied by either the rod 10 or 11. The pivot in the modification shown in Fig. 3, is formed of two concentric parts 14, 15 welded together at 14a, the part 14 being connected by a rod 12 to the hand lever and the sleeve 15 being connected to the brake pedal. The pivot bearing 16 may be mounted on the rear axle by a bracket 7.
