Abstract
489,314. Knitting-machines. DUBIED & CIE SOC. ANON., E. Feb. 8, 1937, No. 3734. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1936. [Class 74 (ii)] In a Jacquard controlled parallel or straight bar knitting-machine in which the needles are selected by auxiliary pushers, each needle is controlled by at least two pushers which are selected by the Jacquard device for cooperation with an auxiliary slide lock and through the medium of an intermediary slide, actuate the needle or jack to cause it to co-operate with the needle slide lock ; by this means the needles are adapted to knit cardigan, long and short stitches. Each needle may be controlled by more than two pushers which co-operate with additional auxiliary locks, and for double and triple cam machines the pushers and auxiliary locks arp duplicated or triplicated. As shown in Fig. 1, the needle 2, having its heel 2<1> engaging the main needle slide lock 4, is connected to a jack 3 which engages the intermediary member 11 slidable in a yoked bed 12 integral with the needle bed 1. The auxiliary pushers 13-16 are guided by the member 11 and yoke of the bed 12 and are actuated by the Jacquard card 17 for co-operation with the cam portions of the auxiliary slide lock 18 by which the tips of the pushers advanced by the card are moved so that the member 11 is raised to move the jack 3. If two pushers 13, 14 are provided for each needle and are not advanced by the card 17, the jacks are not moved and the needles remain in alignment but if, e.g. the upper pushers 13 remain inactive and the lower pushers 14 are advanced by the card, the tips 14<1> thereof are engaged by the cam portion 23, Fig. 3, of the auxiliary lock and raised so that the jacks 3 are also raised; the tips 141 then slide on the cam portion 23 and the heels 3<1> of the jacks follow the contour of the cam portion 8 of the main lock, Fig. 4, up to the line V-V so that the needles are advanced halfway to form cardigan loops. The heels of the inoperative pushers 13 then engage the cam portion 20 of the auxiliary lock and are shifted downwards to depress the jacks and disengage the heels thereof from the cam portion 8 of the main lock while the needles are guided by the cam portions 6, 7 thereof. The pushers 14 are again raised by the cam portion 23 of the auxiliary lock, the jacks engaging the main lock and the needles being retained between the cam portions 6, 7 to the line X-X and retracted to the line XI-XI while the jacks are engaged by the cam portion 8 of the main lock until retracted by the cam portion 10, the needle heels entering the corresponding recess in the cam portion 5 so that long stitches are formed. Afterwards the needles are retracted and moved into alignment and the cam portion 21 of the auxiliary lock is shifted downwards to align the heels of the auxiliary pushers 13 not in the operative position and so depress the needle jacks while the cam 31 moves the pushers 14 back to their initial position. Other patterning possibilities are described.
