488,919. Motor-vehicle driving-gear. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 20, 1937, No. 7225/38. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1936. Divided out of 489,039 and addition to 488,667. [Classes 79 (ii) and 79 (iv)] In a vehicle having a downwardly-inclined final-drive or axle-pinion shaft 15 driven from a propeller shaft 32 through universal joint means 30, as described in the parent Specification, the driving thrust and the torque reaction are transmitted from the final-drive housing 18 to the chassis frame 10 through the suspension springs 11. In the construction shown, the universal joint 30 is of the constant velocity type. The shaft 15 drives the axle-shafts 14 through spiral-bevel gear 16, 17.
