Abstract
488,797. Knitting. REYNOLDS, W., and BONSER, F. Jan. 14, 1937, No. 1154. [Class 74 (ii)] A knitted fabric consisting of plain (non-rib) knitted webs produced from at least four different threads and connected back-to-back by tuck stitches of one web extending into the other, has the sinker bars of the tuck stitches extruding substantially in the direction of the courses. Fig. 1 shows a fabric made by feeding four threads T<1> ... T<4> successively to a cylinder and dial machine with four sets of needles, the threads T<1>, T<3> forming stitches a, c on one side of the fabric and also tuck stitches a<1>, b<1> which alternate in the wales and courses with floats f<1>, f<2> produced by the threads T<2>, T<4> which form the other side of the fabric. The needle movements during the feeding of the four yarns are (1) long cylinder needles tuck, short dial needles knit ; (2) L.C. needles knit, L.D. float ; (3) S.C. tuck, S.D. knit; (4) S.C. knit, S.D. float. Alternatively, the tuck stitches may be formed on the dial needles and the cylinder needles held out of the path of the yarns T<2>, T<4> to produce floats. The fabric is produced on a rib machine with the needles of the beds operating in radial alignment and the yarns may be fed at two positions at each of which two threads are fed through two spaced holes. According to the Provisional Specification, one of the webs may be ribbed. Specifications 455,047 and 488,850 are referred to.
