Abstract
488,733. Hinges. TRANTER, A. M., and COWLISHAW, W. Feb. 13, 1937, No. 4372. [Classes 65 (i) and 65 (ii)] The arms 16, 18 of a hinge are pivoted together at 19 and freely slidable, perpendicularly to the hinge axis, within channels, one of which is in the door or the like and the other in the door frame. The arms 16, 18 may have recesses cut along their top and bottom sides to co-operate with recesses in the channels to form a housing for roller bearings. Springs 24, 25 disposed within the channels behind the arms 16, 18 may be used to urge the door towards a certain position. Thus, the door 13, pivoted at 14, will be urged towards the closed position if the spring 25 tends to draw the rod 16 into the channel and the spring 24 tends to push the rod 18 out. The channel members may be let into either the door or the door frame. The pivot 19 may be fitted with ball bearings and an adjustable spring for urging the arms towards the closed position.
