488,286. Rotary compressors. LAYTHORPE, A. E., [Representative of LAYTHORPE, F. A.]. Jan. 8, 1937, No. 575. [Class 110 (ii)] The compressor or pump has an eccentric rotor 10 in a stator 1 shaped as shown, and radially-sliding vanes containing one or more curved packing pieces 18. The vanes may be connected diametrically by rods 16, or may be free, and each has a spring S bearing on a rocker 21 arranged under the packing pieces 18. Packing segments 25 may be forced apart by springs. A water jacket 6 has inlet and outlet openings 7, 8, aligned openings 9 allowing communication between the two castings 1, 2. The inlet and outlet ports 22, 23 are preferably divided each into two branches, to avoid the joint of the castings 1, 2. Lubricant passes through passages 26, 27 and from ports 29 to passages 28 in the rods 16. The lubricant passes from the sump 5 to the inlet 22 through pipe 31 and needle valve 30, air pressure acting on the sump through a pipe 32. A yokeshaped sealing piece may form the abutment between the outlet and inlet ports. In a modification, annular recesses in the casing walls near the rotor axis, communicates with a space above the suction opening 22 so that liquid leaking along the shaft is led to the suction side of the pump.
