Abstract

488,155. Piston - rings. MADSEN, T. Dec. 7, 1937, No. 33845. [Classes 122 (i) and 122 (v)] In a packing for pistons, shafts, &c. comprising two superimposed split rings 7, 8 or 16, 17 interengaged, either by an annular projection 19 on one ring engaging a wider annular recess in the other, or by means of projections 6 provided on each ring along one half of the inner periphery and projections 10 on each ring along the other half of the outer periphery, the projections on both sides of the slit in one ring are nearer to the packing face than the parts of the other ring abutting radially against them. Radial inward movement of the split ends is thus prevented. Outward movement of the ends may be prevented by a projection 11 on one ring covering the slit in the other.
