Abstract

487,964. Lubricating springs ; shockabsorbers. BROOME, E. B. Feb. 10, 1937, No. 4024. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A combined lubricator and shock-absorber comprises a lubricant cylinder .1 having restricted lubricant outlets 19 and being mounted on a front axle or other part of a vehicle. A cylinder 2 telescopes on or in the cylinder 1 and is connected by a bracket 6 to a part of the chassis so that the cylinders telescope into one another when shocks occur. A piston 10 having a rod 10a passing with clearance through the base of the cylinder 2 is acted upon by springs 12, 13, 16, the combined action of the springs 12, 13, being stronger than that of the spring 16. Upon shocks occurring, the piston 10 will make small movements relatively to the cylinder 1 to force lubricant through the outlets 19 to the leaves of the vehicle spring. The vehicle spring leaves Fig. 5, each have a longitudinal groove 20, 22, and a hole 21, 23, oil fed to the upper leaf passing successively through the leaves to the lowest one.
