Abstract
543,118. Devices for compensating effect of centrifugal force; shock absorbers. ROST, H. F., and LINDBLOM, K. J. Jan. 26, 1940, No. 1604. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii)] Each pair of wheels of a road or rail vehicle is connected to a pair of pistons 10, 11 working in cylinders 6, 7 attached to the chassis 1. Fluid 31 is admitted under pressure to one or the other of the cylinders by a valve 22 controlled by a pendulum 21, thus canting the chassis, body and load automatically about a longitudinal shaft or universal joint 4 to an amount dependent on the outward swing of the pendulum, which itself depends on the speed and the curvature of the path. The fluid may be returned to the reservoir 26, or, in the case of air, to the silencer 34. The bottoms of the cylinders 6, 7 may be connected by a conduit 14 fitted with an adjustable valve 15. Alternatively, the bottom of each cylinder may be connected by pipes to the top of the other, or the piston rods be connected to the bridges of the spring suspensions, and in each of these cases the arrangement acts additionally as a shock-absorber.
