Abstract
297,438. Zßvody Tatra, Akciovß Spolecnost pro Stavbu Automobilu a Zeleznicnich Vozu. Sept. 21, 1927, [Convention date]. Addition to 247,221, [Class 108 (ii), Road vehicles, Undercarriage details &c. for]. Fluid-friction vibrationdampers of the type in which the rebound only is checked are combined with the telescopic guiding - means provided in connection with the frictionless or helical vehicle suspension system forming the subject of the parent Specification. Ball joints 12, 14 connect the cylinder 16 and the piston rod 25 respectively to the swinging axle 5 and the upper part of the engine or gear casing 1. When the helical bearing spring 15 is compressed, oil below the piston 22 flows freely upwards through openings 24 and past the cup leather packing ring 23. Return of the piston 22 upwards is, however, prevented by the oil trapped between the piston 22 and the partition 35. The oil can then only return slowly through passages 25, 26 in the piston rod and piston, the rate of flow being regulated by a needle valve 27, the upward movement of which due to the pressure of the liquid is limited by a conical screw 29 bearing on its upper end. Leather dust planes may be provided. The pressure chamber above the piston 22 is replenished by oil from the chambers formed above the partition 35 in the cylinder and in the upper leather sleeve, a one-way valve provided in the partition 35.
