Abstract
223,062. Vaughan, C. F. Nov. 2, 1923. Resilient shackles. - In a shock-absorber for vehicles as described in Specification 21139/14 and comprising t w o blocks a, c, Fig. 1, adapted for pivotal connection to the vehicle frame and one end of the vehicle spring respectively as shown in Fig. 3, and helical springs d disposed between the blocks and each surrounding a guide bolt b secured to the block a and adapted slidably to engage the other block c, the blocks being mounted in pairs connected by shackle pins h, the sliding block c has long bearing surfaces to ensure lateral rigidity and provide adequate wearing surfaces. Recoil springs e are provided on the lower ends of the bolts b between nuts f and the sliding block c. Lubricant applied at a single hole k in the block a, flows past the upper pin h, through channels l to the bolts. b, and thence through channels m in the block c to the lower pin h, telescopic casings g serving to protect the springs d from dust &c.
