Abstract
487,940. Cathode-ray tubes. LINDEMANN, F. A. Dec. 28, 1936, No. 35466. [Class 39 (i)] For generating an image signal in a television transmitter a photo-electric mosaic is formed on a plate 2 of low conductivity such as soda glass ; a grid 4 is placed on the side of the plate remote from the mosaic and the plate is scanned through the grid by a beam from a gun 5. The potential image of the mosaic formed on the back of the plate controls the flow of electrons from the beam to the grid, those electrons not passing to the grid being taken up by the plate to assist in its return to datum potential. A transparent anode 1 collects the photo-electrons emitted from the mosaic. If a separate photo-electric cathode is used to form an electron image for transfer to the plate, the latter need not be a mosaic but a plate of low conductivity. The transverse conductivity of the plate will be less than that through the plate ; the latter may be increased by inclusion of particles as described in Specification 482,959. The grid may be replaced by a collecting ring. The charge image may be produced by secondary emission, a mosaic being then dispensed with. Additional mosaic elements may be deposited on the side of the sheet 2 remote from the anode 1 ; these additional elements may be coated to produce secondary emission.
