[Class 20 (iii)] In a metal window construction comprising a hinged sash, the bars of the latter are hollow and each contacts when closed with a fixed frame member along two separate surfaces at the inner and outer sides of the window respectively, and also contacts along a surface intermediate said inner and outer surfaces with a resilient sealing strip substantially enclosed within a pocket formed by flanges in the fixed frame member. In the construction shown, the sash and frame members contact along surfaces 14, 19, and the frame members are each formed with projecting flanges 6, 7, substantially enclosing a rubber or resilient metal sealing strip 9, which is engaged by a projecting rib 17 of the sash bar. If desired, the sash bars may be reinforced by angle-bars 25. The glass panel 21. of the sash is secured in position by spring clips 22, the ends of which bear against the glass and enter dovetail shaped portions 24 of the sash bars, respectively. In order to preserve sealing engagement between the hinging stile of the sash and the adjacent frame member, one or more clips may be secured to the sash stile adapted to engage behind the flange 7 of the frame member. The fixed frame bars are also adapted for the reception of a fixed pane of glass, the pockets formed by the flanges 6, 7 serving for the reception of spring clips 22a which retain the pane in position. The frame bars forming the peripheral edges of the window opening are reinforced by steel angle-bars 18c, and the transom and mullion bars are reinforced by flat steel bars 27, the projecting portions of which are covered by capping members 28 of non-corrosive metal.
