Abstract
486,612. Walls; slabs. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd., and SWALLOW, W. Dec. 21, 1936, No. 34992. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] The walls of heat-insulated chambers such as refrigerators are formed of a number of standard sections A., B, Fig. 3, each comprising inner and outer metal or other rigid panel plates 13, 14 enclosing cork or other insulation 16, the panels having outwardly presented grooves 21. at their edges engaging wood or like spacer elements 22 and secured by channel section plates 24. The corners may consist of arcuate sections C similarly formed, or end sections may be mitred and secured to a spacer. The spacers are preferably recessed as shown to provide flush surfaces to the walls, and may be used for holding hooks, shelf supports &c. The insulation may consist of cork slabs secured to the panels by bitumastic cement, or of granulated cork packed in bags retained in place by end members of wood. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 6, kapock or other loose insulation 36 may be used and retained in place by felt strips 41.
