Abstract
486,164. Deseeding flax &c. DODD, A. E. April 12, 1937, No. 10406. [Class 120 (i)] [Also in Group I] In apparatus for deseeding flax and like plants, of the kind comprising overhung rollers between which the seed ends of the flax are passed a number of independent pairs of overhung rollers b, c, Figs. 3 and 4 are provided through which the seed end only of the flax is passed in succession, one roller of each pair being driven at a higher surface speed than its companion roller. Longitudinal laths or strips k are attached to the rollers to provide a fluted surface. The lower rollers are mounted in bearings g at their outer ends while the outer ends of the upper rollers are mounted in swivelling bearings i carried by a longitudinal bar h so that the upper rollers may lift individually but cannot separate laterally. The laths k on the first pair or pairs of rollers are more closely spaced than those on succeeding rollers. The butt ends of the flax are supported on a table d or on a travelling belt as they pass through the machine.
