Abstract
485,139. Sliding doors and windows. FRANCOTTE, J. Sept. 13, 1937, Nos. 24918, 24919, and 24920. Convention dates, Oct. 17, 1936, Jan. 6, 1937, and Aug. 14, 1937. [Class 20 (iii)] Two sliding doors or windows 1, 2, of the kind which lie in the same plane when closed, are adapted to be displaced one in front and one behind the closing plane when opened, as shown in Fig. 8. The sides of the guide grooves in the upper and lower members of the fixed frame 3 are gapped at 25, 26 to allow the guide rollers &c. to move transversely into sliding positions. When closed, the sashes make double contacts with the frame the contacts lying in. two planes A, B, the fixed frame being formed to provide the contacts by cutting a section-bar and turning through 180‹ and rejoining. Tapered studs may be provided in the guides of the sashes which enter holes in the frame flanges to position the sashes for closing. The upper frame member may be provided with holes 29 into which the runners of the sashes are introduced to facilitate removal from the frame. The guide way may have a copper, brass or the like lining 23. Each sash is held closed by a sliding bolt 31, Fig. 10, having studs 32, 33 engaging tapered slots in plates 35 on the end frame member. The sashes and frame may be curved on the horizontal plane.
