[Class 40 (iii)] In photo-electric apparatus for measuring the blackening of a photographic plate 8, a prism or a pair of prisms 17 is adjustably mounted in the path of the light beam, so that by setting the prisms in two different positions the illumination from two different spots A, B of the plate may be thrown on the cell 29, which is connected by a suitable circuit to an indicating instrument 30. The plate 8 is itself adjustable across the light beam, which comes from a source 3 and passes through lenses 5, 6 on its way to the aperture 27 for the cell 29.
