Abstract

484,955. Delivering measured quantities of liquids. BRUNE. H. Aug. 31, 1937, No. 23808. [Class 106 (v)] A device for delivering measured quantities of liquid from a bottle or other container comprises a measuring chamber, each end or each end member of which is provided with apertures arranged in a straight line non-parallel with the straight line on which lie the apertures of the other end or end member. As shown in Fig. 1, the neck 2 of a container 1 is formed into a measuring chamber 8 by parallel end members 4 and 5 each provided with two holes at opposite ends of a diameter. By tilting the container with the inlet holes 6 in a vertical plane and the outlet holes 7 in a horizontal plane, liquid can pass into the measuring chamber through the lower hole 6, air escaping through the upper hole 6 but no flow can occur at the holes 7. When the chamber 8 is filled the container is rotated through 90‹ into the position-shown. This allows the discharge of the measuring chamber. The holes may be formed in the sides of the neck around the edges of the end members or the two holes may be replaced by a narrow slot. As shown in Fig. 12 if the end members 30, 31 are not parallel the holes 32, 33 may be in the same plane, the charge and discharge of the chamber then being controlled by tilting the container so that one or other set of holes is horizontal. The outside of the neck may be provided with grooves 36 to assist the formation of drops of equal size. The measuring chamber may be separate from the container and connected thereto by piping.
