Abstract

420,717. Delivering measured quantities of liquids. ROTA, R., 159, Avenue d'Italie, Paris. Nov. 1, 1933, No. 30358. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 5, 1934.] [Class 106 (v)] A measuring can 1 includes a measuring chamber 2 within the can adjacent one side thereof, a discharge spout 4 in this side of the can and a discharge conduit 5 connecting the chamber 2 with the discharge spout, the chamber having an orifice communicating with the can at a level predetermining the quantity of liquid entering the chamber and the can having a flat side immediately opposite to the side containing the discharge spout. To separate a measured quantity of liquid the can is brought to the position shown in Fig. 2, when liquid passes into the measuring chamber through an aperture 3 and air passes into the can through an aperture 7, the height of which determines the level n-n of the liquid in the chamber. An additional air orifice 9, which may be adjustable, facilitates the passage of air to the can. When not in use the can is preferably stood on the flat side opposite the spout 4 so that the volume delivered will not be affected by temperature variations of the air within the can. The measuring unit may be formed by a blank cut-out and bent as shown in Fig. 6. Several measuring chambers may be included in one can. In a modified form the measuring unit is made up from three main members A, B and C, Fig. 13, fastened together at 15, the unit being fastened within the can by solder provided between the wall of the can and the member A forming part of the discharge conduit 5. The measuring chamber 2 is spaced from the wall of the can by the member C and forms a baffle protecting the inlet 3 against a sudden rush of liquid when the can is tilted. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also modifications in which the, measuring chamber 2 and discharge conduit 5 are spaced from the wall of the can 1, Figs. 1 (Cancelled) and 2 (Cancelled), and are formed without air orifices, the air being admitted to the can through a pipe 8 depending directly into the liquid in the can or passing through the discharge conduit and measuring chamber. The level of the free end 7 of the tube 8 determines the level to which liquid rises in the measuring chamber. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
