Abstract

484,411. Imbibition printing films. BROOKES, N. E. (Technicolor Motion Picture Corporation) Nov. 4, 1936, No. 30040. [Class 98 (ii)] Gelatin film blanks for imbibition printing are prepared by treating the blank in a solution of a hardening agent, the pH of the film and of the hardening bath being previously adjusted to produce a pH value corresponding to the isoelectric point of the gelatin during the hardening process. The film may be subsequently washed in a bath maintained at the isoelectric point. The process may be used for films for imbibition printing in colours, on which a sound track has been formed in developed silver. For example, the sound track is developed in a non-hardening metol developer, the film is washed in water at a pH of 7, fixed in neutral hypo solution and again washed in water at a pH of 7. It is then hardened in a solution of chrome alum of 50-52À5 gms. per litre having a pH value adjusted to 3À45 by addition of ammonia and again washed.
