Abstract
377,706. Photographic processes; colour photography. MURRAY, H. D., SPENCER, D. A., 118, Fulham Road, and OLIVER, L. W., 434, Princes Gardens, West Acton, both in London. April 23, 1931, No. 12070. [Class 98 (ii).] In a process for the production of positive kinematograph films bearing coloured images, a developed film is coated with a layer of a transparent colloid containing a coloured pigment or dye-lake and treated with a solution containing a bleaching agent for the silver and a hardening agent which will harden or react with compounds liberated by the bleaching process to harden the colloid in the presence of the silver images, the unhardened colloid being washed out with hot water. The colloid of the silver image layer is hardened at any stage prior to the hot water treatment and the bleached silver image is removed subsequently thereto. The film may be treated with dilute alkali, e.g. a 1 per cent to 3 per cent solution of ammonia prior to development with hot water. Suitable baths for the bleaching and hardening process comprise (1) chromic acid, potassium bromide and potassium ferricyanide, or (2) copper chloride, potassium bichromate and potassium bromide. The original images may be in alternating sequence on one side of the film or in continuous sequence on opposite sides or in parallel rows on a double width film.
