Abstract

483,837. Securing globes &c. to galleries. DENNES, N., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Nov. 4,1936, No. 30060 [Class 75 (ii)] The circular ring 2 of a gallery 1 is formed with a number of circumferential slots 7, 8 and is encircled by a separable retaining ring 9 having a permanent set so as to tend to expand and divided at one part 16 of its circumference with its two ends connected by adjustable or detachable means such as a screw 17, toggle, or link, whereby said ends may be brought together to contract the ring and cause portions thereof to pass into the slots 7, 8 and engage an external grooved projecting portion 4 of a globe, shade, or reflector 3. The ring 9 may comprise three arcuate portions 10, 11, 12 joined by inwardly curved or straight portions 13, 14, 15, and it may be provided with external operating projections, and with internal projections 19 of asbestos or metal for engaging a globe of smaller diameter. Alternatively, the ring may comprise two parts connected together by a hinge which tends to maintain them partly open. According to the Provisional Specification more than two of such hinged parts may be employed.
