Abstract

483,100. Electromagnetic relays. WEST & CO., Ltd., A.. and BUNYAN, J. Oct. 19, 1936, No. 28361. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXXV] An electromagnetic timing device comprises a field magnet and an armature the time taken for the armature to respond under given conditions being varied by varying the reluctance of the magnetic circuit of the field magnet. In the relay shown, the winding 1 is mounted on the centre limb of an E-shaped core 2. The control limb is of circular cross-section and is divided into two portions 4a, 4b in a plane at right-angles to its axis near one of its extremities. The adjacent surfaces of the two portions carry semicircular inserts 5a, 5b of non-magnetic material, and the outer portion 4b is mounted on a rod 6 which passes through a central bore in the other portion and carries a knob 7 and pointer 8 co-operating with a dial 9. The two portions are held together by a spring washer 10 between the knob 7 and the frame, and a thin non-magnetic washer 11 is provided between the portions to prevent them from sticking together. The reluctance of the magnetic circuit can be varied by rotating the knob 7. The winding 1 may constitute the timing winding. of the electromagnetic switch described in Specification 480,455.
