[Class 39 (i)] In a screen grid valve, a grid 5 is placed between the screen grid 3 and the control grid 2, the turns of the grid 5 being in front of those of the screen grid when viewed along planes at right-angles to the cathode 1. The grid 5 may be at zero or negative potential, or may be connected to the cathode inside or outside the tube in order to prevent screen grid current. Further grids in hexodes, octodes &c. may be arranged with their turns in line with those of the grids 5, 3.
