Abstract
482,906. Electric water heaters. MERCER, W. E., TULLY, E. E., and PARKER, A. Oct. 16, 1936, No. 28094. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIX] An electric water heater comprising a series of U-shaped immersion heaters 27a housed in a series of thin walled tubes arranged between headers 15, 20. The lower header is in two parts the lower part comprising a plate with transverse passages 23, 24, 25 being made removable to facilitate the insertion of the resistance units. The units are secured in the upper header by glands 34 and are connected by cables to a snap-action switch 13 whereby one or more of the units may be coupled to the power mains. The top and bottom headers may be thin-walled pipes. Water is supplied to the top headers by a pipe 11 and discharged from the same header through a pipe 33 leading to the bottom of the heater.
