Abstract

732,069. Electrically heated radiators. HARVEY, H. Sept. 14, 1953 [Sept. 12, 1952], No. 22897/52. Class 39 (3). [Also in Group XIII] In a radiator having pipes 6 interconnecting headers 9, 10, e.g. formed by joining radiator sections 5, and an electric immersion heater disposed longitudinally of the lower header 10, a curved baffle 14 above the heater screens the ends of one or more banks of pipes 6 and directs the heated water up the other bank or banks. As shown, each section has three pipes 6, one in each bank, and the baffle is part-cylindrical and concentric with the heater. It may be an open-ended tube formed integrally with a part of the lower header 10 or flanged at one end for mounting, Fig. 4, with an imperforate portion and the remainder cut away as at 16 or provided with a row of holes. The water flows up the front or back bank of tubes and down the remainder as indicated by the arrows. The radiator sections are formed by joining pressed halves in pairs but an end section is blanked off from the water-containing sections to contain the electrical connections, the outer half-section being removable for access. A thermostat in the upper header controls the heater.
