Abstract

482,087. Resilient drives. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC & MANUFACTURING CO. June 10, 1937, No. 16084. Convention date, July 8, 1936. [Class 80 (ii)] A resilient drive for an electric locomotive comprises a gear-wheel 14, journalled on an axial extension 22 of the road-wheel 12, and having an annular flanged portion 23, disposed within an annular recess in the roadwheel, the flanged portion 23 and the recess being provided with registering radial slots 24, 25, housing resilient means for driving the road-wheel. The resilient means comprises radial leaf-springs 15, the ends of which are separated by a central spacing element 27 having a thickened middle portion. The axial extension 22 of the road-wheel encloses a roller bearing 13, disposed in an enlargement of a motor-supporting housing 11, and the road-wheel 12 is pressed on and secured to the axle 10. An oil-tight cover 32, bolted to the road-wheel encloses the springs 15.
