Abstract

481,339. Engine cylinders. BUGATTI, E. April 12, 1937, No. 10396. Convention date, April 18, 1936. [Class 122 (i)] [Also in Group XXVII] A cylinder is mounted for movement relatively to the crankshaft in any direction in a plane at right-angles to the shaft axis, resilient buffer means 9 being provided to cushion such movements. The buffer mav be in the form of rubber blocks supported between flanges on the cylinder and framing, or the cylinder may be supported by springs or by elastic bars. A hydraulic shock absorber may be associated with the supporting means. The cylinder is guided between plane surfaces 10 at right-angles to the shaft axis and provided on the framing or on adjacent cylinders. Friction elements may be interposed between the sliding surfaces. Brackets 12 carrying the buffers 9 may be adjustably secured to plates 11, extending between the members 10. Alternatively the plates 11 may be above and independent of the buffers and so arranged as to limit the lateral movement of the cylinders. Control valves may be actuated by the means described in Specification 481,340, [Group XXVII].
