[Class 136 (i)] Means for adjustably securing stays to cycle mudguards comprises the combination of a clamping piece for securing the stay to a lug on the mudguard or on a bridge-piece carrying the mudguard, a bolt passing through the clamping piece and lug, and a nut mounted on the bolt and adapted to co-operate with it not only for enabling pressure to be exerted on the clamping piece, but also for securing the bolt to the lug, the bolt or the nut on the bolt being non-rotatable relatively to the lug, and the clamping piece being adapted to permit of both longitudinal and angular adjusting movements of the stay. In one form, a clamping-piece a is formed 'of folded sheet metal, and is adapted adjustably to receive the outer end of a stay band to be attached by a bolt c to a lug d on the bridge-piece e or on the mudguard f itself. The bolt c has the part c<1> of its shank near the head c<2> shaped to a square or other non-circular form to engage non- rotatably in a correspondingly-shaped hole in the lug d. An inturned end h holds apart the sides of the clamping-piece a when the nut g is tightened. Angular adjustment of the stay b is effected by a pivotal movement of the clamping piece a on the'bolt c. In a modification, the nut is arranged on the inner side of the lug d and is prevented from rotating by the engagement of one of its flats with an inturned flange on the end of the lug, the outer end of the bolt being headed and slotted &c. for rotation by a tool. In a further modification, the clamping-piece; is formed of a flat plate having inwardly-bent ends, and the space receiving the stay is made large enough to permit angular adjustment of the stay relatively to the clamping-piece and the lug d.
