Abstract

480,574. Hot air and gas engines. NEW ENGINE CO., Ltd., and MALONE, J. F. J. July 6, 1937, No. 18764. [Class 7 (i)] A regenerator for a hot air or gas engine comprises a casing 1 in which are arranged a number of substantially paralled straight tubes 7, the ends of which are secured in plates which close the space exterior to the tubes from the interior of the tubes, the casing adjacent to the plates being enlarged as compared with the intermediate part of the casing to facilitate the flow of gas into and from the space. As shown in Fig. 1, two casings 1, 2 are connected in series by pipe connections 3, 4. Air or gas from the high-pressure side of the engine circuit passes through the inlet 5, tubes in the casing 1, connection 3, tubes in the casing 2, and outlet 8 ; while low-pressure gas passes through the inlet 11, casing 2, connection 4 and casing 1 to the outlet 9. The tubes 7 are supported by tube plates 6 and by spacing walls 12 formed of short lengths of thin tube 13, Fig. 5, spotwelded together at 14.
