Abstract

480,467. Spring - suspensions for vehicles. LYONS, J. M. Dec. 8, 1936 No. 33695. [Class 108 (ii)] In an independent spring-suspension for road-vehicle wheels guide rods 5 are secured to lower lugs 6 and pass through upper lugs 9 on a frame 7 attached to the stub axle and other lugs 3, 4 on a frame 13 carrying the wheel are slidable on the rods against the pressure of springs 10. As shown an H -shaped bracket 7 is provided with lugs 11a which may be attached to an axle 8 by a king-pin 11 and is connected to a steering rod by a lug 11b, and with lateral projections 9 bored to receive the fixed rods 5 on which slide the lugs 3, 4 attached to the frame 13 fixed to the brake drum 2 and provided with a stub axle 13a. Springs 10 are mounted on the rods between a lug 4 and projection 9 so that the wheel may move upwardly only relatively to the axle 8 against the compression of the springs. Rubber pads 16 absorb the return shock. The springs may be enclosed in telescopic tubes and dashpots may be used with or without the springs. The axle may be supported on the usual springs.
