481,623. Vehicle spring - suspensions. MARENBON, A., POLLARD, T. A., and DYSON & CO., Ltd., R. A. Nov. 4, 1936, No. 29982. [Class 108 (ii)] A spring suspension for a road vehicle comprises a pin dependant from the axle, a casing on the chassis iii which the pin is vertically slidable, the pin being guided in the top of the casing, a piston element on the lower end of the pin slidably guided in the casing and a coiled compression spring enclosed in the casing between the piston element and the casing top. The spring suspension is shown mounted on a trailer constructed according to Specification 481,622 and comprises a pin 6 secured to the axle 3 by means of a collar 7. The pin 6 is arranged in a casing 8 and has at its lower end a piston 10 slidably arranged on the pin 6 and prevented from relative rotation by means of a feather 12 engaging a groove. The piston 10 forms an abutment for the spring 9 and is adjustable by means of a nut 11. The collar 7 is provided with a skirt 17 to form a dust seal or a leather &c. seal may be provided. The casing is closed at the bottom by an apertured plate 14 forming a dust-seal and in the case of the front suspension the casing 8 is provided with trunnions 15 engaging in bearings 16 on the chassis to permit the front axle to tilt sideways. Ballthrust or other races 23 may be provided. In another form the casing may be formed in two parts secured together to enclose completely the suspension. The casings for the rear axle are secured rigidly to the chassis. The nut and piston 10 have oblique contacting faces to prevent slacking off.
