Abstract

409,523. Shock-absorbers; vehicle suspensions. ALVIS CAR & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and CLARKE, G. T. SMITH-, Holyhead Road, Coventry. June 17, 1933, No. 17328. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii).] A motion-damper comprises a pair of opposed cone-like members 21, 24, the member 24 being fixed to a stationary support while the member 21 is fixed on a spindle 17 spring-pressed to bias the cone-like members into frictional engagement with a pair of co-operating surfaces 16, the spindle 17 being axially-slidable but non- rotatable relatively to the stationary support. As shown, the surfaces 16 are formed by outwardly-flared ends of the tubular inner end of a radius arm 11 connected at its outer end to a motor-vehicle front wheel 12 which is also connected to the vehicle frame 13 by an upper, transverse spring 14. The member 24 is recessed to receive the spring 27 which acts on the spindle 17, the spring being enclosed in a casing 29 and being adjustable by a nut 28.
