859,258. Road-vehicle spring suspensions. BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE A.G. Oct. 9, 1957 [Oct. 9, 1956], No. 31607/57. Class 108(2). A road wheel 12 is suspended by a horizontal swinging arm 7 from a U-shaped member 4 which is pivotally connected at 3 to the vehicle frame 1. A spring abutment 24 rigidly connected to the member 4 provides a pivotal mounting for the top of a compression leg 26, the bottom of which is pivotally mounted at 19 on the arm 7. The leg 26 comprises a coil spring surrounding a shock absorber. The abutment 24 comprises a protective casing 23 secured by bolts 22, 22, to the member 4. A second swinging arm 8 absorbs braking reaction. Bearings of the arms 7, 8, are lubricated from a reservoir 10.
