Abstract

Hardenable formaldehyde-aminotrazine condensation products are used as binding-medium, the hardening being conducted at temperatures not exceeding 100 DEG C. The speed of hardening may be regulated by the addition of hardening accelerators which may be acid, neutral or basic. Fillers or water-repellent materials may be added to the binder, such as kaolin, gypsum, asbestos, barium sulphate, ivory nut flour, soya bean flour, rye flour, starch, paraffin or aluminium salts. The binding-agents may be used as adhesives, cements, glues or binders in the preparation of plywood, in the use of veneers, for fixing wallpapers, for binding agents in lining boxes or trunks with art or velvet papers, fabrics or sail cloth, for surgical bandages, as a cement, paste or pore- or crack-filler, in the manufacture of artificial cork, as paper sizings, as binding-agent for materials such as wood pulp, straw, or cornstalks in the manufacture of artificial wood plates, in the manufacture of water paints or printing-pastes or as waterproof fixing agents for dusting agents to combat animal or vegetable pests (using as fungicide or insecticide lead arsenate, arsenious acid, copper compounds, mercury compounds, sulphur or sulphur compounds, fluorine compounds, pyrethrum and nicotine). In examples: (1) 2 : 4 : 6-triamino-1 : 3 : 5-triazine is condensed with aqueous formaldehyde and the dried condensation product is used, as a binding-agent for making plywood, mixed with water and (a) ammonium chloride, (c) asbestos powder and diammonium phosphate, (d) soya bean flour and potassium persulphate or an aqueous paraffin emulsion, (e) potato starch, citric acid with or without an aqueous paraffin emulsion, (f) ammonium sulphate, (g) gypsum and formic acid, (h) rye flour, potato starch and potassium persulphate with or without the addition of an aqueous paraffin emulsion, or as an adhesive for veneers, mixed with (b) water, barium sulphate and oxalic acid; the condensation product dissolved in aqueous ammonium sulphate is used (2) mixed with a paraffin emulsion and kaolin or wood flour as cement or filler for knot - holes or fissures, (3) as an adhesive for paint brush hairs or (4) as an adhesive for sticking a cloth lining to boxes or trunks or for securing wall-papers or decorative materials to walls (basic bases being first neutralized); (5) kaolin, lithopone and the condensation product are mixed with aqueous ammonium chloride and aqueous bone glue to yield a water paint; (6) rubber latex, aqueous ammonia, the condensation product, water and cork dust are blended and moulded; (7) lithopone is blended with a solution prepared by condensing triaminotriazine and aqueous formaldehyde, a starch paste and ammonium sulphate and used for sizing paper; (8) wood pulp is mixed with water, starch paste, a solution of a hydrophobe triaminotriazine in sulphuric acid, paraffin emulsion, aluminium sulphate, and after neutralization the pulp is formed into a plate, dried and pressed; (9) Cibanone Blue RS paste is blended with an aqueous solution of the condensation product, tragacanth thickening and formic acid and used as a printing-paste on a cotton fabric; (10) arsenious acid is blended with a triazine resin solution prepared as in example (7), starch paste, ammonium sulphate, formic acid and water and used to treat plants; (11) ivory black, titanium white, gold bronze or a mixture of ivory black and titanium white, wetted with alcohol and turkey red oil, is mixed with an aqueous methylol compound of melamine and gum tragacanth and used as a printing paste on bleached cotton fabric; (12) corundum powder is mixed with a condensation product, water and ammonium sulphate and moulded; (13) a syrupy condensation product of 2 : 4 : 6-triamino-1 : 3 : 5-triazine and aqueous formaldehyde, or an aqueous solution of the dried condensation product together with ammonium sulphate or dibromcinnamic acid, is used for impregnating paper and dried to yield a glue film which may be used in plywood manufacture. Specifications 455,008, 468,677, 480,339, and 480,340 are referred to.
