Abstract

Dry binding preparations suitable for use in the process described in Specification 480,316 comprise an aminotriazine-formaldehyde condensation product and a hardening accelerator. The dry preparations may be converted into glues by mixture with water or they may be used in the form of glue films containing the condensation product and the hardening accelerator as an impregnation on a thin paper sheet. The hardening accelerator may be acid, neutral or basic such as persulphates, oxalic acid, citric acid, dibromocinnamic acid, ammonium chloride, ammonium sulphate, or diammonium phosphate. The preparations may also contain fillers, softeners, water-repelling agents or colours, such as kaolin, gypsum, asbestos, barium sulphate, ivory nut flour, soya bean flour, rye flour, starch, and aluminium salts. In examples: (1) a pure resin is prepared by condensing 2 : 4 : 6-triamino-1 : 3 : 5-triazine with aqueous formaldehyde and drying the syrup obtained and the product mixed with (a) barium sulphate and oxalic acid, (b) asbestos powder and diammonium phosphate, (c) soya bean flour and potassium persulphate, (d) potato starch and citric acid, (e) ammonium sulphate, and (f) rye flour, potato starch and potassium persulphate; (2) crude melamine is condensed with aqueous formaldehyde and the dried product dissolved in cold water is mixed with ammonium sulphate of dibromocinnamic acid and used to impregnate an absorbent kraft paper to obtain a glue film.
