Abstract

479,716. Vehicle bodies. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO., E. G. April 20, 1937, No. 11264. Convention date, April 20, 1936. [Class 108 (i)] In a combined body and underframe structure having box-section side sills extending through the threshold region, and, at the front end. into the wheel housing region the boxsection is constituted by the floor panel and the body side wall. As shown in Fig. 2, the floor plate 10 is bent downwardly at its lateral edges to form a flange 14 which is spotwelded to the outer panel 11, shown in the figure as the threshold portion. A crossbracing member 12 of channel form is also welded to the floor plate 10 and flange 14 by flanges 20<1>, 21<1>. 22, 23, Fig. 2a, Fig. 3 shows the arrangement at the wheel housing in which the panel 11 after forming the enclosing portion of the housing is welded to the floor flange 14, a second longitudinal member 19 forming with the floor 10, 14 the required box sill which is reinforced by the box cross-member 13. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which a strip 36 connects the outer panel 33 to the floor plate 29 which is bent as at 30, 31 to form the box sill. Fig. 6 shows yet another form in which the floor plate 40 is welded to the upper part of the outer panel 42 and an additional member 45 is provided to complete the box section sill.
