[Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i)] Road and rail vehicles are constructed with frame members of hollow form but of large cross-section and of thin walls which are reinforced interiorly by insertion plates, the frame members forming a large part of the exterior and interior walls. Fig. 4 shows a longitudinal roof member comprising bent sheets 11, 19 welded together to form a box girder and having insertion plates 12, 13 welded therein. To the roof member the columns 16, 17 formed as shown in Fig. 8 are secured, insertion plates 18 being provided. The sill members are also of box girder form such as 6, Fig. 1, and the roof arch members are formed of bent plates 10, 20 with insertion plates 15. The waist rail is also formed as a box girder 3, 4, Fig. 1, and may also be prolonged downwards to form the panelling. The columns may be wide and of shallow depth as shown at 30, Fig. 11, to form a considerable area of the inner and outer surface of the body, insertion pieces 29 and a window 28 being provided together with a waist rail 31. Fig. 15 shows a railway vehicle having upper and lower box girders 51, 52, and front columns 53 to which the buffers are secured. Fig. 19 shows a box girder member 65 which is provided at the parts where the sill members are interrupted by the wheels. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also other forms of upper and lower longitudinal frame members. Fig. 24 (Cancelled) shows the lower part of a vehicle which is rounded off. The frame member at the left hand side comprises walls 92, 97, 98 riveted together and reinforced by sheet metal insertions 96 while the frame member at the right hand side comprises walls consisting of a bent member 93 and an arched member 92 riveted together and reinforced by bent over members 94 and an arched sheet metal member 95.
