[Class 79 (iv)] [See also Group XXXII] A motor-vehicle frame comprises shoetmetal side longitudinals a of channel or curved cross-section facing outwards, converted to box-like or tubular form by supplementary members. A sheet-metal floor c, which may have a central inverted troughlike formation e extending over the propeller shaft, occupies the middle portion only of the frame and deep flanges d, integral therewith or attached thereto in assembly, form the central closure members of the longitudinals, being riveted or welded to depending flanges b thereon. The end portions of the longitudinals are closed by supplementary channel members f, Fig. 3, welded therein and also welded to the adjacent ends of the flanges d. To facilitate mounting the body with the lower edges thereof overlapping the sides of the frame, the upper sides of the channel members a are preferably narrower than the lower sides, the flanges d being inclined as shown. Other bracing members g are provided as required. The longitudinals a may be of curved cross-section with edge flanges. Specification 430,512 is referred to.
