[Class 138 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] Means for actuating windscreen-wipers for motor vehicles comprises one or more flexible reciprocatory racks engaging one or more pinions or like toothed parts, for transmitting motion from a source of power to the wiper or wipers. In the construction shown, a suctionoperated piston within a cylinder a is connected to a flexible rack comprising helically-wound. wire d carried on a stranded wire or other flexible core e. The rack engages a pinion f to the shaft of which is connected a wiper arm j. The pinion f also engages one end of a second flexible rack, the other end of which engages a pinion m for the purpose of oscillating a wiper arm p. The wipers instead of being given oscillatory movement may be adapted to move with a parallel reciprocatory movement.
